Presentation of Report on “2021 Latino GDP in the United States”
Objectives
Inaugurate Alianza MX’s “Latino and Mexico: Identity and Culture” Program.
Create a space for the promotion of Latino culture in the United States and share UC research on Latinos in the United States from different fields (including business, literature, and visual arts).
Disseminate a Spanish version of the “2021 Latino GDP Report” findings.
The inaugural event of the Latinos and Mexico: Identity and Culture program took place on April 27, 2022, at Casa de la Universidad de California in Mexico City.
The University of California Alianza MX had the honor of hosting a presentation of the translated Spanish version of the “2021 United States Latino Gross Domestic Product (GDP)” report by Dr. David Hayes-Bautista, the co-author and director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture at the University of California-Los Angeles.
Special guest speakers included Carlos González Gutiérrez, Consul General of Mexico in San Diego, CA, and John Vance, Acting Public Affairs Officer, U.S Embassy in Mexico. Over 60 guests attended the event.
During the event, Dr. David Hayes-Bautista highlighted that in 2019, the efforts of the 60 million Latinos residing in the United States produced a Gross Domestic Product of $2.7 trillion USD. In other words, if the Latino population in the U.S. were a country, its GDP would be equivalent to the GDP of France and larger than the GDPs of Italy, Brazil, or Canada.
