Athletics Collaboration – UC Riverside and UNAM Second Student-Athletes Exchange

Alianza MX’s aims to foster academic exchange opportunities for the student-athelte community and strenghten collaboration with key partners to theUC, such as UNAM

Within the framework of theAthletics Collaborationbetween the University ofCalifornia Riverside andUniversidad NacionalAutónoma de México (UNAM),the second student-athleteexchange was celebrated fromthe UNAM Women’s SoccerTeam, taking place from the2nd to the 10th of August,2024 in Riverside, California.

On August 2, UCR Athletics welcomed 18 student-athletes from the UNAM Women’s Soccer Team and five Deporte Universitario officials from UNAM

As part of the agreement reached in the collaboration, UCR Athletics hosted and sponsored the UNAM Women’s Soccer Team for a week at a lodging residence in UCR.
Josh Smith, Senior Associate Athletics Director (UCR Athletics), was the main coordinator for planning and overseing all the activities
carried out at the UCR sports facilities. In collaboration, Maximiliano Aguilar, Director of Representative Sports, and Jair Juárez, Women’s Soccer Head Coach, from Deporte Universitario, UNAM, were of great support for the execution of all items established in the
agenda.

UNAM Women’s Soccer Team played two games against the representative soccer teams of UC Riverside and Mt. San Antonio College (SAC)

The first match took place on 08/04 against the UCR Women’s Soccer Team at UCR Soccer Stadium, while the second and last match (08/09) was against the Mt. SAC Women’s Soccer Team at the Mt. SAC Soccer Field.
UCR Athletics facilitated transportation for the entire team to enable an easy transfer to the various cultural activities scheduled. Likewise, Alianza MX sponsored a tour through The Cheech Marin Ceneter for Chicano Art & Culture. Further atctivities, as attending to a Dodgers Game was covered by UNAM.

In honor of the collaboration, Alianza MX hosted a dinner reception at the UCR Alumni and Visitors Center

Dr. Rodolfo Torres, VC RED, gave some remarks highlighting the importance of fostering academic exchange opportunities for the student-athlete community in both sides of the boder. Dr. Torres was followed by Wesly Mallet, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, UCR, and Maximiliano Aguilar, Director of Representative Sports, UNAM.
